Revelation Strength is primarily focused on improving athletic performance.
We offer a CrossFit STRENGTH and CONDITIONING program designed to improve ten physical attributes: strength, power, cardiovascular endurance, respiratory endurance, stamina, coordination, agility, flexibility, accuracy, and balance.
Our primary movements are centered around constantly varied, intense combinations of Olympic (Clean, Jerk, Snatch), Gymnastic (Pushups, Pull-ups, Ring Movements), Powerlifting (Dead Lift, Squat) and mono-structural (Running, bike, row, jump-rope) exercises. We train with many non-traditional but very functional tools such as Kettlebells, tires, sleds, and sand bags.
We train in small group training sessions. Everyone will use the same basic architecture, but tailored specifically for them. When I was developing as an athlete our strength and conditioning was a team event, and I carried that methodology into my EOD teams. We have replicated that same team environment here at Nansemond CrossFit, choosing to benefit from the support, camaraderie, and maybe a little competition that comes from training together.
Because we are pursuing high levels of athletic performance, we stress nutritional habits that support improved performance. The most effective nutritional templates are centered around a 40-30-30 ratio of high quality carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Our Nutrition Tips document is a simple combination of Zone Nutrition and Paleo Nutrition principles designed to get you started. You also might find useful information in our Nutrition Guidelines provided to the Nansemond Volleyball Club.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?? A strength and conditioning program holds athletic performance as its primary focus. This is quite different from many other fitness programs where aesthetics and weight loss are the focus. It sounds counter-intuitive, but when you place performance first, aesthics will follow. A program whose focus is body fat loss can fail to address other important things like strength, mobility, and injury prevention. A broader athletic program means bending over and getting into the bottom kitchen drawer and cleaning rain gutters gets easier. It means mulching the yard gets easier and playing softball at the re-union is fun and injury free. It will improve daily function as well as decreasing body fat and improving other health indicators (blood pressure, cholesterol, heart health).
WHAT ABOUT COMPETITVE ATHLETES? The constant variation and intensity has been proven to increase general athletic aptitude while reducing training time and injuries. CrossFit has been shown time and time again to improve competitive performance. Olympic Caliber weightlifters, world class swimmers and runners, NFL, MLB, and a host of special military and first responder organizations have all benefitted from CrossFit programming. If you are interested in sport specific examples please get in touch with us and we can provide examples.
We don’t require prior competitive athletic experience or knowledge to participate in our program. We will teach you movement technique and scale (adjust) training up or down according to your abilities. More often than not, people with little or no previous experience are very coachable and see more dramatic results than accomplished athletes. If you are unsure, don’t hesitate to give us a call or shoot over an email.
Most people, even those seeing personal trainers or regular gym time, have never taken part in an organized strength/conditioning program and will experience tremendous gains by participating. Accomplished athletes involved in periodized, sport specific programs will see performance increases as general athleticism improves and corrects muscular imbalances and decreases training time. Almost all will greatly benefit from improved nutritional habits.
